Samaritan’s Feet named Official Charity Partner of the Charlotte Eagles

CHARLOTTE, NC – February 6, 2006 - The Charlotte Eagles professional soccer team  today announced that Samaritan’s Feet, one of the world’s major footwear humanitarian relief organizations dedicated to modeling servant leadership and providing shoes, support and comfort to the feet of impoverished children throughout the United States and around the world, has been named the official charity for its 2006 season.

The Eagles will launch a year long community campaign and “Season of Hope” to help Samaritan’s Feet attain its 10-10-10 Shoe of Hope goal to equip the feet of 10 million impoverished children with 10 million pairs of shoes over the next 10 years. The Eagles “Season of Hope” will include several initiatives beginning with their aid in delivering shoes towards its 10,000 shoe challenge at the 2006 CIAA Tournament and Fan Fest. The Eagles will also be involved as a sponsor of the Samaritan Mile 5K Life Walk, where Eagles midfielder Sam Casey will attempt to raise $25,000 towards the mission, as he walks on behalf of shoeless children in our community and around the world. The third initiative of the campaign will be the collection of shoes at all Charlotte Eagles games and events in 2006. The Eagles will collaborate with Samaritan’s Feet on an international relief mission to go help personally deliver shoes to children in need, when the Eagles youth team travels to play in Brazil this July.

“We are very excited about the potential of this unprecedented partnership”, Eagles spokesman Nathan Krum states. “Both organizations have strived over the years to bring a message of hope to those who have none. Together, we can now make a resounding impact in our community and around the globe to permanently change lives.”

“We welcome the awesome opportunity to serve the children of the world along side our friends at the Charlotte Eagles, says Manny Ohonme, Founder and President of Samaritan’s Feet.  What a unique way to work together to tangibly make a difference in the lives of children in our community, and hopefully someday connect the global soccer community to this mission, says Ohonme.”
