(Wilmington, NC) - The Charlotte Eagles
were on the road tonight facing the Wilmington Hammerheads.
After being down 2-1 at half time the Eagles soared in the
second half to earn the 2-2 draw.
The Charlotte Eagles scored the first
goal of the game in the 15th minute. Charlotte 's Adam
Ruud pushed down the right side and served the ball into the
box, but the Wilmington goalkeeper cleared the ball out.
Joseph Kabwe was there to fire the clearance back on goal
with a one-time shot into the upper corner.
Wilmington evened up the score in the
21st minute on a free kick. Paul Chase took the kick
and placed it perfectly to beat Daniel Benton in goal.
Wilmington scored the final goal of the
half in the 36th minute. The Hammerheads played a long
ball in the air forward for Chris Bagley. Bagley beat
Josh Rife to the ball and toe poked it past him, gaining the
breakaway. Bagley scored with a shot from eight yards
out. The first half ended with the Hammerheads up 2-1.
The Charlotte Eagles improved in the
second half and pressured the Wilmington Hammerheads in
hopes of scoring the equalizer. The tie goal finally
came in the 78th minute. Jacob Coggins collected a
pass at the top of the 18 yard box, turned and shot on goal.
Coggins' shot was saved but it rebounded back out to Dustin
Swinehart who poked it in.
Charlotte and Wilmington have tied three
times in this regular season. Charlotte's record is
now 6-3-5, 23 points, and Wilmington is at 3-6-5, 14 points.
