The Charlotte Eagles scored the first goal of the game in the 15th minute.  Charlotte 's Adam Ruud pushed down the right side and served the ball into the box, but the Wilmington goalkeeper cleared the ball out.  Joseph Kabwe was there to fire the clearance back on goal with a one-time shot into the upper corner.

Wilmington evened up the score in the 21st minute on a free kick.  Paul Chase took the kick and placed it perfectly to beat Daniel Benton in goal.

Wilmington scored the final goal of the half in the 36th minute.  The Hammerheads played a long ball in the air forward for Chris Bagley.  Bagley beat Josh Rife to the ball and toe poked it past him, gaining the breakaway.  Bagley scored with a shot from eight yards out.  The first half ended with the Hammerheads up 2-1.

The Charlotte Eagles improved in the second half and pressured the Wilmington Hammerheads in hopes of scoring the equalizer.  The tie goal finally came in the 78th minute.  Jacob Coggins collected a pass at the top of the 18 yard box, turned and shot on goal.  Coggins' shot was saved but it rebounded back out to Dustin Swinehart who poked it in.
