League-Leading
Kickers Top Charlotte 2-1
(Richmond, VA) - The Charlotte Eagles faced the
league-leading Richmond Kickers tonight at the University of
Richmond stadium. Jacob Coggins got the Eagles on the
scoreboard first, but the Kickers tied the match minutes
before halftime and added another in the second half for the
2-1 Richmond victory.
The
Charlotte Eagles had a strong first half of play and took
the first lead of the match in the 27th minute. Jacob
Coggins put the Eagles on the board with a hard shot to the
lower corner from about 18 yards out.
Charlotte
looked to be taking the 1-0 lead into the halftime break,
but Matt Watson evened the score in the 43rd minute.
Watson's goal was a header from 12 yards out off a nice
serve from Anthony Williams.
Richmond
stepped up play in the second half and took over the lead in
the 70th minute. Recent Richmond signing David Bulow
set up the goal with a through ball forward for Robert
Ssejjemba, creating the breakaway. Ssejjemba finished
with a nicely placed shot past Benton in goal. It was
Ssejjemba's 15th goal of the season, leading the league.
