Lee Horton, Jacob Coggins and Patrick Daka will lead the new full-day Elite Player Program in 2009 which will take place on July 13-17 at the beautiful facilities of Calvary Church and CHAMP Sports in South Charlotte.
The Elite Goalkeeping Segment will be lead by North Carolina Soccer Hall of Fame Coach, Lee Horton. Horton starred at the goalkeeping position in the mid-70's for North Carolina-Chapel Hill before coaching Charlotte Latin School to 11 North Carolina State Championships. As the only head coach in the history of the Lady Eagles, Coach Horton has been a model of consistency through the last nine seasons. With an overall record of 102 wins, 28 losses and 7 ties, Coach Horton has maintained a steady hand of leadership in guiding the team to eight playoff appearances including 1 W-League championship (2001), 2 championship game defeats (2000 and 2002), as well as Conference championships (2000, 2001, 2002, 2006). His experience and expertise in goalkeeping will be a major asset to the Elite Program in 2009.
The 101 Moves segment will be lead by Zimbabwe International and Eagles' star midfielder, Patrick "Tricks" Daka. A magician with the ball at his feet and an experienced coach, Daka played his 5th season last year with the 2008 Regular Season Champions. A former Zimbabwe National Team Player, Patrick brings high level experience as he and the 2009 staff will train players who will have the chance to participate in a segment that will challenge them in every facet of their game.
Two-time USL-2 MVP Jacob Coggins will lead the Finishing Segment in 2009. A Charlotte native and Independence High School standout, Coggins developed his skills as a young player for the Eagles in the late 90's and early 2000's. In 2004, Coggins became much more than just a young player; he became a feared striker. Scorching opponents on his way to the USL MVP Award and Scoring Title, Coggins lead the Eagles to the National Championship Final in 2004. Coggins had arrived on the national scene which lead to his time with the U.S. National Team that same year. Jacob continued that success in 2005 as he became only the second player in league history to be named League MVP and Scoring Champion for the second year in a row. Coggins capped off 2005 with a goal in the Eagles National Championship victory in Massachusetts. After spending time in the First Division Coggins returns to the "Queen City" in 2009 as an accomplished player and outstanding coach who will help aspiring strikers reach their dreams at the Elite Finishing Segment.
"We are very excited to have a staff as experienced and accomplished as the staff we have in 2009," stated Nathan Krum, Director of Soccer Programs. "The Elite Program has successfully been revamped to provide players some of the highest quality instruction in the Greater Charlotte Area. We could not have a better leadership team than the one set for the 2009 Elite Program," stated Krum. "Having Lee, Jacob and Patrick will ensure credibility for our program which many programs can sometimes lack. We are looking forward to providing our youth soccer community this great opportunity."
