The Eagles and Lady Eagles both experienced exciting playoff runs all the way to their league championships in 2006. The Eagles made their 3rd straight National Championship appearance attempting to defend their 2005 Championship only to fall just short in a 2-1 loss to the Kickers in Richmond, VA on Fox Soccer Channel. Despite losing key starters to injuries during the 2006 season, the Lady Eagles overcame adversity to claim the W-League Central Conference Championship. The victory earned the Lady Eagles a trip to the W-League Final Four in Vancouver where the Whitecaps Women raised the W- League Cup as the 2006 National Champions. Both the Eagles and Lady Eagles organizations were awarded for their success in 2006 at the United Soccer Leagues AGM in November as the Eagles earned the USL Fair Play Award, and Eagles GM Tom Engstrom was named the USL 2nd Division Executive of the Year (his 3rd honor in 10 years with the club). Lady Eagles General Manager, Ethan Allen was also awarded the W-League Executive of the Year. The honor was Allen's first in his 3rd year managing the club. The teams will return to Waddell Stadium for the 2007 season which will feature some new exciting events, and other popular returning events. Some of those events include a special breast cancer awareness night with the Komen Foundation of Charlotte, and the 2nd Annual Soccer Jam with Kiss 95.1 and Cool 104.7. Due to its resounding success, the Soccer Jam on June 23rd will showcase many new features as the brackets for the free skills competition has been expanded to feature U-6 to U-18 players. Registration for the free competition will open in January. The festival has also been modified to go on from 12pm to 7pm with many new features to be announced soon.
