Swinehart and Herrera Combine on Both Goals in 2-0 Win

(Charlotte, NC) - The Charlotte Eagles hosted the Wilmington Hammerheads on Friday Night. Dustin Swinehart and Jorge Herrera combined on both goals to give the Eagles a 2-0 victory over the Hammerheads. The two goal performance gives Swinehart a league-leading 12 goals this season as the Eagles improve to 9-1-4, for 31 points at the top of the usl-2 standings.

The first half of the match was fairly even as the Eagles and Hammerheads search for some rythmn and composure. There were few quality opportunities in the half on either side with just two shots for Charlotte and one for Wilmington. Wilmington forward Jamie Holmes had the best chance at a goal in the half. Holmes collected a cross from Josh Smith and fired off a shot from 8 yards out, but the shot went right to the chest of goalkeeper Terry Boss who made the save.

Charlotte kicked up the tempo in the second half, and it paid dividends early as Dustin Swinehart scored just four minutes into the half to take the 1-0 lead. The goal was set up in the midfield. Jorge Herrera sent a ball in over the top for Swinehart. Swinehart controlled the ball nicely with his chest, and looped a volley shot over John O'hare who was off his line.

Swinehart added his league-leading twelfth goal of the season in the 55th minute of play. This time it was Jorge Herrera who set up the goal. Defender Ben Johnson passed the ball up the right side line for Herrera. Herrera continued down the right side to the endline, turned the corner and served the ball to the back post for Swinehart. Swinehart scored with a header inside the right post for the 2-0 lead.

The Eagles out-shot Wilmington 11-8 in the second half and Terry Boss was flawless in goal to earn the shutout with eight saves. Wilmington will have a shot at revenge against the Eagles next Saturday in Wilmington, wrapping up the three games series. The Eagles lead the Charlotte/Wilmington three game series two games to none.

Charlotte will be back at home on July 19th to host the Real Maryland Monarchs. Kick off is slated for 7:00 pm at Restart Field. Tickets can be purchased online at www.CharlotteEagles.com. Fans can save $2 over the gate prices by purchasing online up until midnight, July 18th.

The Charlotte Lady Eagles are home this weekend hosting the division-leading Atlanta Silverbacks Women. Atlanta is undefeated this season and have always been tough competition for Charlotte. A victory would be a great boost for Charlotte prior to heading into the playoffs. The Lady Eagles wrap their season at home on Friday, July 18th at Restart Field, hosting West Virginia.
