Restart Fitness Water Partnership
Josh Baney of Restart Fitness Water addresses the media at the Eagles Press Conference

It's Official: Restart and Diadora In 2008!
Eagles Unveil Diadora gear, Restart Fitness Water at Press Conference

(Charlotte, NC) - The Charlotte Eagles kicked off their pre-season weekend with a bang as the club announced information on their 2008 season at a press conference today at Siskey YMCA.

The team began the day at Siskey YMCA's soccer fields, signing autographs, showcasing their new merchandise and hanging out with Siskey YMCA's youth soccer teams for Siskey Y's Opening Day for their youth soccer leagues.

The event finished with a major press conference where the Eagles announced their newest major partner Restart Fitness Water, gave a brief update on the development of the Sportsplex in Matthews and an introduction of the new team.

Nathan Krum of the Charlotte Eagles and Mecklenburg County Soccer Advisory Council member, gave a brief update of the complex under development in Matthews, North Carolina. Krum gave a status report of Phase 1 of the complex which includes 2 synthetic turf fields w/ lighting, 3 natural grass fields, restroom facilities, a playground, 600 lot parking space and the first entrance road to the facility. The ENTP with design is expected to be completed by Fall of 2008 with construction set to begin in the Spring of 2009. The completion of Phase 1 is expected to be Fall 2010, with Phases 2 and 3 to follow once additional funding is provided.

At that time, Krum made the official announcement that Restart Fitness Water has signed on to be the Official Sport Drink of the Charlotte Eagles. Restart Fitness Water is a 0 Calorie, 0 Sugar, No Artificial Flavor sports drink that used today's press conference to be the official launching date of its product. Josh Baney, a representative of the Costa Rican-based company went on to state the reasons for teaming up with a team like the Charlotte Eagles. "When we looked at potential partners to join us in our launch, it was hard to ignore the Charlotte Eagles' dedication to this community," stated Baney. "They have been serving this area for years and we felt the best way to impact this area in a positive way was to join forces with their organization." Krum then went on to discuss the advantage and rarity of a partnership like that. "Restart is not only a unique product, but it is also a very unique group. It is not often that you have a corporate partner who truly wants to walk along side you every step of the way not only to promote their brand, but more importantly to also make this community better."

The Charlotte Eagles and Lady Eagles players then unveiled the new Diadora 2008 Uniforms. The Eagles home kit will be orange/white/white and the away kit will be blue/black/blue. The Lady Eagles home kit will be orange/orange/orange and the away kit will be blue/blue/blue. Restart Fitness Water's logo will be on the front of the Eagles' jersey and the back of the Lady Eagles' jersey. Bojangles will be on the front of the Lady Eagles' jersey and on the right sleeve of the Eagles' jersey. Carolinas Medical Center will continue to be on the back of the Eagles' jersey.

The press and fans also got to see a glimpse of the new team, including recent signings Jorge Herrera and Gustavo Bentos. Although, the majority of the team was present today, the team did not make any more official signing announcements. The Eagles are planning major player signing announcements next week as they anticipate USSF and league approval over the weekend.

Eagles Re-sign Colombian Herrera; Acquire Uruguayan Gustavo Bentos

The Charlotte Eagles announced today the signings of Colombian Jorge Herrera and Uruguayan Gustavo Bentos. Bentos and Herrera are the first official announced signings of 2008 for the Charlotte Eagles, as the team prepares for preseason training on March 17th. Both Bentos and Herrera will be introduced to the press this Saturday, March 15th for the Charlotte Eagles Press Conference at Siskey YMCA beginning at 11:30am. Both players will be available for interviews immediately following the press conference.

Jorge Herrera exploded into USL-2 for the Eagles at the start of last season as the 27 year old midfielder had 5 assists and 1 goal in only 5 games played for Charlotte. Due to international visa issues, Herrera returned to Colombia following his fifth game for the Eagles. During that time he played professionally in Paraguay while awaiting his return to the Eagles earlier this month. As one of the most technically sound players on the team last year, USL Hall of Fame Coach Mark Steffens was not shy about his feelings of Herrera being back for the entirety of 2008. "We are excited to have Jorge back with us for 2008," remarked Steffens. "Jorge provided tremendous contribution to us during his time last year on and off the field, and we are looking forward to much of the same this season."

Gustavo Bentos comes to Charlotte to play his first season in the United Soccer Leagues, but experience is in no way lacking for the 31 year old forward from Uruguay. After playing for both the U-17 and U-20 Uruguayan National Teams, Bentos spent his professional career in Uruguay, Bolivia and Chile. In Bolivia, Gustavo scored 19 goals in 35 games, and was third in scoring for the First Division of Bolivia. In 2005 Gustavo played in Fernandez Vial only half the season while netting 13 goals in 20 games played. His most recent stint was with Chilean club Deportes Copiapo. Bentos not only comes with an impressive resume, but also a strong passion for the community which will make him a great addition to the Charlotte Eagles' roster in 2008.

Both Bentos and Herrera, along with the rest of the 2008 Eagles roster will be at Siskey YMCA for the Eagles Press Conference to unveil the new 2008 uniforms, and announce new major partners including the introduction of a Costa Rican investment group that will be making its presence known in the Greater Charlotte community. Mecklenburg County and Matthews officials will also be in attendance to give a brief update of the Sportsplex being developed in Matthews. This complex will serve as the future permanent home of the Charlotte Eagles.
