Bryant Saves Charlotte with Late Goal
in 1-1 Tie at Bermuda

(Hamilton, Bermuda) - The Charlotte Eagles wrapped up their two game road trip tonight facing the Hogges at the Bermuda National Stadium. Charlotte played the majority of the game behind, with Keishan Bean scoring the first goal for Bermuda in the 19th minute. Brady Bryant saved the day for Charlotte with a late goal to draw the Eagles and Hogges even at 1-1.

The Bermuda Hogges came out ready to play in the first half and out shot Charlotte 10-6 in the half. Charlotte really turned things around in the second half, earning nine corner kicks off their offensive pressure and out-shooting Bermuda 9-4 in the second half, but the Eagles had trouble capitalizing on their chances for the second night in a row. Fortunately Brady Bryant was able to find the back of the net in the 87th minute to earn the tie an a point in the standings. It turned out to be quite a different match than the 6-0 victory Charlotte had over Bermuda at UNC Charlotte to open the season.

Despite the two ties on the road this weekend the Charlotte Eagles remain at the top of the USL-2 standings at 8-1-4 for 28 points. The Bermuda Hogges earned their first tie of the season and move to 3-6-1 for 10 points.

The Charlotte Eagles are at home this coming weekend to host arch rival the Wilmington Hammerheads at Restart Field. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 pm. Western Mass Hold Eagles to 0-0 Draw

(Ludlow, MA) - The Charlotte Eagles played the first of a two game road trip tonight, starting with a match up with the Western Mass Pioneer. Western Mass held the league leading Eagles scoreless in the 0-0 tie.

The Charlotte Eagles had much of the possession throughout the game, but were only able to create a few quality chances on goal. Western Mass defended well, and played much of the first and most of the second half packed in their half. The Pioneers looked to create their scoring chances off the counter attack.

The tie is a sore one for Charlotte, sitting atop the USL Second Division. Charlotte's record moves to 8-1-3, for 27 points, still five points better than the Cleveland City Stars in the second spot of the standings. The Western Mass Pioneers should be pleased with a tie to finish off the series with Charlotte. Western Mass sits in the fourth position of the standings at 5-5-4, for 19 points.

Charlotte finishes off its road trip tomorrow in Bermuda, facing the Bermuda Hogges. Charlotte opened the season hosting Bermuda and fired off a 6-0 victory. Bermuda has shown definite improvement and Charlotte has to be getting weary with such a tight string of games recently.

The Charlotte Eagles return to home field action on Saturday, July 5th to host rival Wilmington. Kick off is slated for 7:00 pm at Restart field. Tickets can be purchased online at www.CharlotteEagles.com at the advance purchase discount of $2.00 per ticket when purchased prior to game night.

Final Minute Penalty Kick
Knocks Charlotte Out of Open Cup

(Charleston, SC) - The Charlotte Eagles battled the Charleston Battery tonight in a US Open Cup round three matchup at Blackbaud Stadium. Charleston got off to an early lead with a first half goal, but Charlotte came back to tie in the second half with a goal from Jorge Herrera. Osvaldo Alonso scored the winning goal for Charleston off a penalty kick in the final minutes to knock the Eagles out of the Open Cup. With the 2-1 win Charleston will move on to the fourth round to host the Houston Dynamo of the MLS on July 1st.

Charleston opened the scoring in the 12th minute following a scramble in the box involving Aaron King. The ball came out to King who hit a shot first time at the goal. Charlotte goalkeeper Terry Boss parried the shot but the clearance landed at the feet of Darren Spicer who volleyed home from the right side of the penalty-area. The goal was Spicer's fourth of the 2008 tournament.

In the 20th minute Charlotte came close after earning a free-kick twenty yards out. Midfielder Jorge Herrera whipped in a shot but Battery goalkeeper Keith Wiggans dove across and made the save at the near post.

In the 23rd minute Battery midfielder Osvaldo Alonso played an excellent pass down the right side for Darren Spicer. Spicer caught up with the ball at the bye-line and crossed to the back of the box. Winger Mike Richardson ran onto the pass but his header attempt was saved by Boss.

Charlotte enjoyed the majority of possession after half-time and were rewarded for their efforts in the 66th minute with a goal. Midfielder Ben Johnson hurled a long-throw into the box to Jorge Herrera who snapped his header past Wiggans into the goal.

The game appeared to beheaded to overtime but turned in Charleston's favor in the 90th minute after Randi Patterson was brought down in the box. The referee awarded Charleston a penalty-kick and Osvaldo Alonso slotted it past Boss to give Charleston the win.

Charlotte gave a strong performance tonight and had several strong strings of possession. The Eagles outshot Charleston 7-4 and forced Charleston goalkeeper Keith Wiggans to make six saves. Charlotte was clearly unhappy with the penalty kick awarded by Referee Banning particulary at such a critical point in the match which looked to be headed to overtime.

The Charlotte Eagles have another two game road trip this weekend. First the Eagles face the Western Mass Pioneers on Friday night. Then on Saturday its off to Bermuda to face the Bermuda Hogges. The Eagles return to home field action on Saturday, July 5th to host rival Wilmington Hammerheads at restart field. Kick off is slated for 7:00 pm.

Eagles v. Battery

The Charlotte Eagles will travel to Charleston to take on the Battery in the second round of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup tonight. The winner will host MLS Cup Champions Huston Dynamo next Tuesday, July 1st.

In the first round the Eagles disposed of the Clearwater Galactics in a very exciting match. The Battery defeated an amateur team as well as they beat the ASC New Stars 3-0 off of a hat trick from Darren Spicer. The Battery sit in second place on the USL 1st Division with a 6-3-3 record with just one loss at home. Last season Charleston won three Open Cup games including the Huston Dynamo who were defending MLS Cup Champions. Oddly enough the winner of Tuesdays match will meet Huston in the next round of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup.

Should the Eagles beat the Battery in Charleston they would then host the two time defending MLS Cup Champions Huston Dynamo on July 1st at UNC Charlotte. A time for that match has yet to be set but would most likely be played at 7 p.m. Tickets would be available in advance at www.charlotteeagles.com

Kabwe Scores in 1-0 Victory Over Monarchs

(Boyds, MD) The Charlotte Eagles played their eleventh game of the regular season on the road tonight facing the Real Maryland Monarchs. Joseph Kabwe scored the lone goal of the match to earn Charlotte a 1-0 victory over the Monarchs and maintain the top spot in the USL-2.

Charlotte got off to a great start in the match. Veteran defender Josh Rife and forward Rob Ssejjemba combined for a great chance in which Rife narrowly missed to the left of goal from 18 yards away.

Real Maryland responded immediately, and in the 5th minute a partial clearance led to Ronald Cerritos attempting a dangerous volley which was just deflected out for a corner.

In the 31st minute, Charlotte had another great chance as Ssejjemba got free for a header but missed just over the crossbar. Once again, Maryland countered as midfield catalyst Dennis Alas got free on the right side. Alas played a ball across the goal, just out of reach of the sprawling Perez at the far post.

The Eagles and Monarchs found themselves deadlocked, 0-0 at the halftime whistle after a fairly even performance in the first half.

Maryland came out playing very well in the 2nd half, and should have taken the lead in the 49th minute. Alas struck a ferocious free kick from the right side which was saved by Boss. The rebound fell right to Maryland defender Andy Kish who had the entire goal at his disposal but he put the ball over the crossbar.

The missed chance seemed to deflate the home side as Charlotte began to gain control of the game. A mistake in defense by Marcos Chantal almost gave them the lead in the 53rd minute, but Jorge Hererra missed his chance at goal with a miss-hit shot.

In the 65th minute, some lazy defending by Maryland, coupled with questioning positioning by goalkeeper Emilio Zelaya, allowed the always dangerous Dustin Swineheart in behind the defense. Swinehart struck his shot high and wide of the goal.

Charlotte finally broke through in the 73rd minute. Defender Ben Johnson took a long throw-in from the right side, finding Dustin Swinehart at the near post. Swinehart flicked the ball on to the far post for Joseph Kabwe. Kabwe, eight yards out from goal, blasted a shot past Zelaya to take the 1-0 lead.

Alas had one last chance to pull Real Maryland even in the 86th minute when he sent one of his trademark, blistering free kicks just wide of the goal from 35 yards away.

Maryland pushed forward for the remaining minutes, which left them exposed in defense, but Zelaya made several saves to keep the game at 1-0. Charlotte earned its eighth win of season and the Monarchs slumped to their fourth straight league defeat.

The Charlotte Eagles are right back in action on Tuesday night for another US Open Cup match. This time, in the second round the Eagles face the Charleston Battery of the USL-1 at Charleston. The winner of the match will go on to face 2006 and 2007 MSL Cup champion Houston Dynamo of Major League Soccer. Should the Eagles win, they will host the Dynamo in Charlotte on July 1st.

The Charlotte Lady Eagles played on the road tonight as well, facing the Carolina Dynamo Women. Charlotte got its first tie of the season moving to 8-1-1 for 25 points. The Lady Eagles sit comfortably in the second spot in the Atlantic Division, just two points below leading Atlanta Silverbacks Women. Carolina is in the middle of the W-League Atlantic Division Standings at 3-5-2 for 11 points. The Lady Eagles and Dynamo women played once previously this season, and Charlotte came away with a 3-2 victory back on May 16th at Restart Field.

The Charlotte Eagles pro team and the Charlotte Lady Eagles w-league team are both on the road this weekend for league play. The Eagles pro team face new-comer to the league, the Real Maryland Monarchs on Saturday, June 21st. Meanwhile, the Lady Eagles face the Carolina Dynamo Women on Saturday. Eagles @ Real Maryland Monarchs

The Eagles pro team currently sits atop the USL-2 standings with a 7-1-2 record for 23 points. Charlotte faces Real Maryland this Saturday in Maryland. The Monarchs have had a tough start to their inaugural season with a 3-6-0 record for 9 points. Their best showing of the season was in the 3-2 victory over current number two Cleveland City Stars.

Charlotte must not take the team lightly though. The Monarchs certainly have some talent on their team, and the Eagles are in the midst of their busiest run of the season, with Open Cup matches adding to an already full schedule. Saturday kicks off a long stretch for the Eagles, with an Open Cup match in Charleston on Tuesday and a two game weekend on July 27th and 28th. Should the Eagles defeat Charleston on Juen 24th, then the Eagles will host the '06 & '07 MLS Champion Houston Dynamo on July 1st in Charlotte.

Lady Eagles Face Carolina Dynamo

The Charlotte Lady Eagles face the Carolina Dynamo Women on Saturday night. The Lady Eagles (8-1-0, 24 pts) are tied with Atlanta with 24 points thus far this season, but Charlotte has played one more game than Atlanta, and the Lady Eagles' only loss is to Atlanta.

Carolina currently sits in the middle of the W-League Atlantic Division Standings at 2-5-1 for 7 points. The Lady Eagles and Dynamo women played once already this season, and Charlotte came away with a 3-2 victory back on May 16th at Restart Field.

Swinehart Scores Two in 2-1 Victory

(Charlotte, NC) - Restart Field was the venue for Kick for the Cure Night and another Charlotte Eagles and Lady Eagles doubleheader night. The Charlotte Eagles sported special pink jerseys in support of Komen for the Cure and the fight against breast cancer The Eagles showed they can even play well in pink as veteran forward Dustin Swinehart lead the Eagles to a 2-1 victory over the Western Mass Pioneers. Charlotte continues its reign at the top of the standings with a record of 7-1-2, 23pts, while Western Mass falls to 4-4-3, 15pts in the middle of the table.

Charlotte came out strong from the start of the match and really controlled the tempo of play with strong possession as a heavy cooling rain poured down on Restart Field at kickoff. Dustin Swinehart opened up the scoring for the night, just thirteen minutes into play. First year Eagle Darren Toby set up the goal with a nice serve from the right side. Swinehart got airborne and redirected the cross into the net with a nicely placed header back to the near post.

Just three minutes later Swinehart added his second goal of the night to put the Eagles up 2-0. This time it was veteran defender Josh Rife who set up the goal from the left side of the pitch. Rife made a swift pass into the middle to connect with Swinehart with space in front of the net, about ten yards out. Swinehart took a one touch poke at the ball, beating Western Mass goalkeeper Matt Glaser on the right side. The goal was Swinehart's tenth goal of regular season play, leading the league.

The half ended with Charlotte up 2-0. Charlotte out-shot Western Mass 10-1 in the first half.

Western Mass picked up its intensity in the second half of play. The Pioneers looked to use physical play to knock Charlotte off of their possession game in the second half, and play got scrappy at times in the midfield.

In the 55th minute the Pioneers cut the Eagles lead in half when Neil Krause drew a foul resulting in a penalty kick. Krause and Brady Bryant were shoulder to shoulder chasing down a loose ball played forward by Western Mass. Just inside the box, Krause got tripped up, and despite the noise of the disagreeing Charlotte fans, the referee awarded Western Mass a penalty kick. Jeff Deren stepped up to take the kick, and beat Charlotte goalkeeper Kevin Trapp with a brisk shot to the lower left side.

The remainder of the second half continued to be very physical, and referee Risso Francisce was not afraid to blow his whistle to maintain control of the match. Francisce dealt out three yellow cards in the half; two for Western Mass and one for Charlotte. The match ended with a 2-1 victory for Charlotte.

The pink jerseys worn in match are being auctioned off this week at www.CharlotteEagles.com. All proceeds from the jersey auction will be donated to Komen for the Cure to help in the fight against breast cancer. The Charlotte Eagles are on the road for their next four matches in another busy stretch of games. On June 21st the Eagles are in Maryland to face the Real Maryland Monarchs, then on June 24th its round two of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup. The Eagles travel to Charleston to face USL-1 side, the Charleston Battery. Should the Eagles defeat Charleston it will mean the chance to host MLS reigning champions the Houston Dynamo on July 1st in Open Cup round three. Charlotte has a two game road trip on June 27th at Western Mass and June 28th at Bermuda.

(Charlotte, NC) - The Charlotte Eagles will be hosting the second annual Kick for the Cure Night this Saturday, June 14th at Charlotte Christian School's Restart Field. The Lady Eagles and Eagles will be sporting their special pink jerseys in support of Komen for the Cure and the fight against breast cancer. The game worn pink jerseys will be auctioned off online at the Charlotte Eagles website throughout next week, with proceeds going to Komen for the Cure. All About You Salon will also be out at the doubleheader offering FREE* hair cuts to those willing to donate their hair to Locks of Love. The evening will kick off at 5:00 pm with the Lady Eagles hosting Richmond. Between the Eagles and Lady Eagles game will be a Celebrity Challenge and the men's game will kick off at 8:00pm.

CELEBRITY CHALLENGE

The Charlotte Eagles will be hosting a special Celebrity Challenge at 7:00pm, between the Eagles and Lady Eagles game on Saturday night. The Celebrity Challenge will be a shooting competition with noteable Charlotte Area personalities such as Leslie Neese, former New Life 91.9 announcer and Survivor reality television show participant. Participants will take shots at the Bojangles' shootout board. The Eagles will donate up to $2500 to Komen for the Cure based on the shooting success of the participants.
