(Charlotte , NC)- Darcel Mollon scored two goals and Christy Rife and Nikki Lyons added one each in the Lady Eagles 4-0 shutout over the Bradenton Athletics tonight during Kick for the Cure Night. It was an evening dedicated to the fight against breast cancer with the Lady Eagles sporting their special edition pink jerseys. The jerseys are being auction off at www.CharlotteEagles.com this week with the proceeds going to the Charlotte chapter of Komen for the Cure.
The Lady Eagles controlled play during the first half and knocked on the door repeatedly looking for the first goal of the match, but the half ended scoreless. Charlotte out-shot Bradenton 17-3 in the first half. Lady Eagles head coach Lee Horton commented on the match:
"We came out with tremendous energy tonight. I was worried at halftime that we would get dishearted with so many close chances in the first half, but no goals. Fortunately we contined to pressure in the second half and finished our chances."
Darcel Mollon finally got the Lady Eagles on the scoreboard four minutes into the second half. Carrie Lorenz set up the goal with a precision pass onto the run of the speedy Darcel Mollon. Mollon pushed past the defense on the left side and scored with a low bending shot into the bottom right corner of the goal.

Christy Rife scored the second of the match for Charlotte in the 66 th minute of play. Rife, with her back to the goal, collected a pass from Lydia Vandenbergh. Christy turned and scored with a shot from eight yards out to beat Bradenton goalkeeper Shannon Atkin.
Christy Rife and Darcel Mollon combined on the third goal giving the Lady Eagles a 3-0 lead. Christy Rife played the ball forward for Darcel who broke through the defense with speed. Darcel beat goalkeeper Atkin with a shot to the upper left corner.
Nikki Lyons wrapped the scoring up in the 86th minute. Lyons received the ball on the right side deep in Bradenton territory. Lyons beat two defenders pushing along the endline, and drilled the ball into the top corner.
The Lady Eagles improved their record to 4-2-1, for 13 points tonight with the 4-0 victory. Laura Armstrong earned her second shutout of the season.
The Charlotte Lady Eagles return to home field action next Saturday night at Waddell Stadium when the Lady Eagles host the Hampton Roads Piranhas at 5:30 pm. The Charlotte Eagles pro team will play immediately following the Lady Eagles match with kickoff at 8:00 pm.
