Eagles Tie Kings in Cincinnati 3-3

Cincinnati King's Match Report

Wilder, KY (July 27)--Thanks to a late penalty kick goal by Cincinnati's Nathan Micklos, the Kings were able to salvage a tie against the Charlotte Eagles Friday night in United Soccer Leagues Second Division action at the Town & Country Sports Center.

The Kings scored first in the game, played in a steady rain through the first half, off a point-blank goal in the sixth minute by Micklos with an assist from Tim Brown. Three minutes later Charlotte evened the game off a slow roller from Jacob Coggins that somehow had enough speed to make it to the back of the net. Joseph Kabwe was credited with the assist.

In the second half, it was Micklos again in the 61st minute off the assist from Philip Glaser, but Charlotte answered with an unassisted goal from Dustin Swinehart from Miami University. Charlotte took the lead in the 82nd minute when Adam Ruud's shot on goal was stopped, but Kings goalie Francois Dubourdeau let the ball roll up his arm and into net. Josh Rife was credited with the assist.

The Kings scored the equalizer in extra time, as Micklos finished the hat trick off a penalty shot as the ball deflected off Eagles Goalie Terry Boss' mit and landed in the right corner of the net.

The Kings and Eagles both had 16 shots on goal, while Boss was credited with eight saves and Dubourdeau with six.

The Kings now stand at 3-9-5 while the Eagles are at 10-6-2. The Kings finish their home season next Saturday, August 4 at 7: 30p.m. as the Harrisburg City Islanders visit Town & Country.

The Charlotte Eagles continue their two game road trip tomorrow night facing the Cleveland City Stars.   Charlotte then has a weekend off before wrapping up the regular season at home on August 10th hosting the Bermuda Hogges.  Tickets for the August 10th match can be purchased online at www.CharlotteEagles.com .  Save $2.00 on each ticket by purchasing your tickets prior to gameday at the Eagles website.
