In an individualistic world overtaken by statistics and stardom, the author of Walk-On: Life From the End of the Bench, points out that 'even if we feel like we're always sitting on the end of the bench', we all have something that makes us significant in our lives-no matter how many points we score.
Amidst a culture where parents scream at referees and where a child's social development is substantially impacted by the positive and negative experiences he or she has on a field, perspective has been lost in athletics today. For this reason, Alan has initiated a program called 'Putting Perspective Back into Sports' where he travels to different communities and tackles the major issues surrounding sports today. 'What does it mean to be a teammate?' 'Why would we play sports even if we never got to play?' 'And how have parents added unnecessary pressures on their kids?' These questions and more as Alan ultimately reminds athletes that sports are not an end in themselves, but are a means by which we may glorify God.
"I've coached hundreds of athletes. I have never had a player who better exemplified the word 'Teammate' than Alan Williams. Alan's selfless devotion to the team and the high level of his character set a standard for all young men who play sports."
