2026-2027 Age Group Formation Update
Starting in the 2026–27 season, US Youth Soccer, in partnership with AYSO and US Club Soccer, is shifting its age-group formation cycle to run from August 1 to July 31, aligning players with the traditional school year. All USYS and US Soccer leagues and competitions—such as National Academy League, National Premier League, NCYSA, and Carolina Champions League will adopt this new August–July system.
In a recent article, US Youth Soccer emphasized that this realignment supports player development and enhances the overall youth soccer experience, stating that aligning with school calendars better addresses both social and practical needs for families. In response to U.S. Soccer’s policy allowing federations to set their own age rules, USYS will also roll out a tool for parents to easily determine the correct age group based on birthdate .
